While Aloe itself is not directly named in Scripture, it is referenced in Exodus 30:23 (OSB) as one of the fragrant oils used for anointing and holy purposes: “Take also for yourself the finest spices: of liquid myrrh five hundred shekels, and of sweet-smelling cinnamon half as much, two hundred fifty, and two hundred fifty of fragrant cane, and of cassia five hundred, according to the shekel of the sanctuary, and a hin of olive oil.”

Aloe was historically included among healing and sacred plants in the Middle Eastern region.
